Gastric Bypass/weight Loss Surgery Cookbook?
I had gastric bypass surgery last month, January 2009. Any recommendations for weight loss surgery friendly cookbooks you’ve tried? I’d prefer answers from people who have actually tried the cookbooks. I found some online, but my local bookstores don’t carry any so I can’t actually look inside!
You are still in your ‘window of opportunity’ if you had roux-en-Y recently. Please, please, please don’t squander it. You shouldn’t be thinking about eating as much as working out safely. If you have a BMI over 60, look at water walking, then progress to treadmills, then sky’s the limit. As for your diet, however gross it may seem, please stick to protein shakes as your body has no tolerance to any form of carbohydrates at this time. You do not want to grow the pouch inside of you at all. The next 12-18 months are the most critical of your roux-en-Y life as it is the small opportunity the surgery provides to potentially lose the most amount of weight.
As for websites about good nutrition, I like http://www.vitalady.com the best because she’s been through it, tells you how tough it’s been, and every one else has contributed something on there in addition.
As for cookbooks after your ‘window of opportunity’, I have used several low-carb cookbooks which emphasize healthy protein primarily, but without disgusting overuses of fat.
I wish you the best of luck. I consider my surgery as my new birthdate.
I’m curious to know this too. I’m getting the lap band on Monday.
GOOD LUCK!
I’ll check back and see if you get any real answers. There are alot of spamers on here tonight.
