What Would Cause The Weight Loss In A Fish?

I Have a clownloach whose is losing weight rapidly all other fish are fine except him he is eating but his condition is worsing ! He has barely any body mass and looks very frail as if he were straving to death I have tried to put him alone at feeding time and give him lots of food but there again he is still losing weight rapidly. Tank has been established for over 3 years now, he housed with other loaches as well and they look fine any suggestions greatly appreciated. I am losing him and I dont know what else I can do:(

the most common cause for weight loss in fish is a case of intestinal parasites…they come in many forms, but the best method of treatment is to give all of your fish a treatment for parasites, such as “pepso food” or “internal parasite guard” which will clean them out…you can usually tell if a fish has parasites by its feces, which will usually be long, stringy and clear hanging out of the fish. read the directions on the bottle..fish usually get parasites from live/frozen food…loaches love snails, and if you have snails this could be where the loach got it from.

as Psy_Chick said, this sounds like an internal parasite. they can be quite challenging to treat and this guy sounds like he’s quite far along now :(
i used Interpet No.9 Anti Internal Bacteria on my endlers I kept losing to suspected internal parasite problems, I haven’t lost anymore since I treated with it.

I have been having the same problem..1 of my clown loaches has always been a little weaker than the others..2 weeks ago he developed ich and I treated the whole tank to stop it from spreading and raised temp to 84..it didn’t work(by this time I had 2 loaches with ich)..so I did a partial water change and remedicated…after another 3 days I did a partial water change and lowered the temp back to 78…the loach(by now named Benjamin) seems to be better..he still sleeps right beside the heater..but does interact with the other loaches intermittently..an d has developed a great appetite for flake food, frozen blood worms and frozen brine shrimp..he still looks frail and very thin..but I think he is getting better….I don’t know if this helps or not:)

Maybe it is just his time? Have you tried asking the vet what they think?

I’m not quite sure but you should go to your library and a vet for answers
