Two things boost metabolism: exercise and eating. (Ironic, huh?)
If you have the schedule to combine the two, that's great. Every time you eat (and you should eat 3-5 times a day), do some exercise about 20 minutes later. That teaches your body to really rev up after you have food.
If you can't do that (and most people can't-we have this thing called a JOB and our bosses don't give us 3 lunch breaks with exercise time!), then just try to do some exercise every day. Walking is free. Stair climbing is free--you probably have some stairs in your house just waiting to be climbed. Park farther away (I used to park 1 space further away from work every day until I was at the far end of the lot.) Hang your laundry out instead of using the dryer, take the stairs instead of the elevator (or stride briskly up the escalator), wash the dishes by hand, etc. There's lots of ways you can increase your mobility.
BTW, the five meals aren't 5 full course meals. It's breakfast, lunch & dinner with two small snacks (like a piece of fruit) in between. You want to eat every 2-3 hours.

You can kick start your metabolism by increasing your anaerobic threshold, (AT). This means using cardiovascular excersises like running outside, or on a treadmill. Walking fast, or any cardio machine at a club. By increasing your body's ability to more effeciently utilize oxygen, you are training it to burn more sugar and fat. To prevent injury, though, start slow! Reducing your caloric intake and increasing your cardiovascular excersises will both help to increase your metabolism.
